September 03, 2024 By Ramasside Admin
Alexandria Private Tour from Cairo

Schedule: Daily

Duration: Approximately 10–12 Hours

Pickup Time: 7:00 AM (Flexible timing adjusted to your preference)

Tour Highlights

Escape the bustle of Cairo for a full-day private coastal excursion to Alexandria, the Greco-Roman gem of the Mediterranean. Your dedicated Ramasside Tours licensed Egyptologist guide and professional driver will meet you directly at your Cairo or Giza hotel in a modern, climate-controlled private vehicle.

Explore Alexandria’s rich blend of Hellenistic antiquity, Islamic architecture, and royal seaside estates. Discover the contemporary Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the Roman Amphitheatre at Kom El Dikka, and Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral. Wander through the historic Mansheya market quarters, admire the Citadel of Qaitbay standing on the site of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse, and stroll the royal grounds of Montaza Palace Gardens before returning smoothly over the iconic Stanley Bridge back to Cairo.

Detailed Itinerary

Morning Hotel Pickup & Scenic Highway Drive

Your Ramasside Tours Egyptologist guide and chauffeur will welcome you at your hotel lobby in Cairo or Giza holding a personalized name sign. Depart northwest in a private, air-conditioned vehicle along the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Highway (approx. 2.5 to 3 hours).

Bibliotheca Alexandrina & Underwater Relics

Begin your exploration at the iconic Bibliotheca Alexandrina, one of the modern world’s great literary and cultural landmarks, designed to hold up to 8 million books:

  • Admire the disc-shaped granodiorite facade carved with characters from 120 global scripts.
  • View underwater Greco-Roman statues salvaged from the seabed of the ancient royal harbor, including colossal likenesses of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I.
  • Enjoy dedicated photo opportunities outside the complex and through its modern courtyards. (Note: The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is closed on Fridays and national public holidays. Internal reading hall access requires a separate entry ticket).

Roman Amphitheatre at Kom El Dikka

Visit the well-preserved Roman Amphitheatre, Egypt’s sole surviving marble Roman theatrical complex, complete with 13 tiers of white marble seating, mosaic galleries, and an open-air display of Roman-era baths and salvaged harbor relics.

Saint Mark’s Cathedral & Downtown Historic Markets

  • Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral: Visit the historic site regarded as the earliest Christian church established in Africa, founded by Saint Mark the Apostle in 42 AD.
  • Downtown Architectural Stroll: Walk through central Alexandrian boulevards showcasing Belle Époque, Baroque, Italianate, and French neoclassical facades.
  • Mansheya & Zan'et Et-Setat: Navigate through the historic lanes of the oldest open-air souks, including the gold quarter and fabric markets.

Authentic Alexandrian Lunch

Recharge with lunch featuring fresh Mediterranean seafood or dine at the legendary local institution Mohamed Ahmed, celebrated for its classic Alexandrian recipes and famous international guests, including Queen Sofía of Spain. (Optional: Enjoy a relaxing coffee break at an authentic heritage cafe along the promenade).

Abu El Abbas Mosque, Fishing Port & Citadel of Qaitbay

  • Abu El Abbas El Morsi Mosque: Stop for photos outside Alexandria's largest and most intricate Andalusian-style mosque, located near the vintage seafront carousels.
  • The Historic Eastern Harbour: View traditional wooden fishing boats bobbing along the marina against the Mediterranean breeze.
  • Citadel of Qaitbay: Explore the imposing 15th-century defensive sea fortress constructed directly over the foundations of the legendary Pharos Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Fresh Juice Stop & Coastal Drive to Montaza Gardens

Drive eastward along Alexandria’s 25 km seaside Corniche:

  • Make a brief stop at the famous local juice stand "Mango King" to sample fresh seasonal fruit blends.
  • Pause for photos at the Alexandria Memorial to the Unknown Soldier.

Montaza Palace Gardens & Royal Grounds

Arrive at the lush 370-acre royal estate of Montaza Palace Gardens, originally laid out as the private summer retreat of Egypt’s royal family:

  • Stroll through the palm groves and manicured gardens surrounding the Al-Haramlik and Salamlek Palaces.
  • Walk out onto the iconic Montaza Bridge overlooking the Tea Palace island and the historic private royal beaches.

Stanley Bridge & Return Drive to Cairo

Conclude your Alexandria exploration with a drive across Stanley Bridge, taking in panoramic coastal vistas before heading back on the desert highway, arriving comfortably at your hotel in Cairo or Giza.
