Cairo to Alexandria Overnight Tour

Schedule: Daily

Duration: 2 Days / 1 Night

Pickup Time: 7:00 AM (Flexible timing based on your schedule)

Tour Highlights

Escape the bustle of Cairo for a leisurely 2-day coastal exploration of Alexandria, the Hellenistic pearl of the Mediterranean. Your dedicated Ramasside Tours Egyptologist guide and driver will meet you directly at your Cairo or Giza hotel in a private, air-conditioned vehicle.

Over two full days, discover Alexandria’s underground Roman heritage, coastal fortresses, and royal landmarks. Tour the subterranean Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, Pompey’s Pillar, the Roman Amphitheatre, the modern Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and the medieval Citadel of Qaitbay. Relax overnight at a seaside hotel, savor fresh Mediterranean seafood or iconic local fare, stroll the royal grounds of Montaza Palace Gardens, and pause at landmark photo viewpoints including Stanley Bridge before returning comfortably to Cairo.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Cairo to Alexandria – Greco-Roman Heritage & Bibliotheca Alexandrina

  • Morning Hotel Pickup & Highway Drive: Meet your private Egyptologist guide and chauffeur at your hotel lobby in Cairo or Giza. Travel northwest along the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Highway (approx. 2.5 to 3 hours).
  • Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa: Descend a spiral staircase into the largest Roman burial site in Egypt, featuring three rock-cut subterranean tiers blending ancient pharaonic, Greek, and Roman artistic traditions.
  • Pompey’s Pillar & Roman Amphitheatre: Inspect the towering red-granite triumphal column erected in honor of Emperor Diocletian, followed by the nearby marble Roman Amphitheatre at Kom El Dikka.
  • Citadel of Qaitbay (Exterior & Harbor): Tour the 15th-century defensive fortress built on the exact footprint of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse, enjoying coastal views of Alexandria’s Eastern Harbour.
  • Bibliotheca Alexandrina: Explore the modern architectural complex designed to commemorate the ancient Great Library. Tour the grand reading hall, Sadat Museum, and manuscript collections. (Note: Bibliotheca Alexandrina is closed on Fridays and national public holidays).
  • Lunch: Savor lunch at a selected Mediterranean seafood restaurant or try authentic Egyptian street favorites at the famous Mohamed Ahmed restaurant.
  • Religious Landmarks: Visit Saint Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral—the historical seat of the Pope of Alexandria—and the historic Mosque of El-Nabi Daniel.
  • Evening at Leisure: Check into your hotel. In the evening, enjoy an optional dinner at the historic Greek Club overlooking the illuminated harbor.

Day 2: Islamic Monuments, Royal Gardens & Return to Cairo

  • Breakfast: Enjoy breakfast at your hotel.
  • Abu El Abbas El Morsi Mosque: Admire the delicate Andalusian-style domes and minarets of Alexandria’s most prominent Sufi mosque in the Anfoushi quarter, alongside the historic harbor district.
  • Montaza Palace & Royal Gardens: Stroll through lush palm-filled grounds, cross the historic bridge, and view the exterior architecture of the Montaza Palace, once the summer residence of the Egyptian royal family.
  • Corniche Walk & Stanley Bridge: Drive along the Mediterranean seaside Corniche, stopping for panoramic photos at Stanley Bridge with its sweeping sea vistas.
  • Local Lunch: Enjoy a traditional lunch featuring Alexandrian specialties.
