Tour Highlights
Our Ramasside guide will pick you up from your hotel and you will start your visit to the Library of Alexandria, the Roman Amphitheatre, and Saint Mark's Church. You will also walk through the Old City of Alexandria and discover the traditional markets and local cuisine. During the drive, you will pass by Abu Al Abbas Mosque and Qaitbay Citadel, visit the Montaza Gardens, and finally return to your hotel. The tour includes comfortable transportation and a professional tour guide, while, if you wish, you can choose additional activities.
Tour Details
Our Ramasside guide will pick you up from your hotel to start your tour of the Library of Alexandria, the largest library in the world, which houses 8 million books. While visiting the open courtyard, you will see the statue of Alexander the Great and the statue of Ptolemy I, which was found underwater nearby. Our guide will explain the exterior design of the library, and you will have the opportunity to take photos.
Note: The Library of Alexandria is closed on Fridays and all official holidays. Admission to the Reading Hall requires a ticket.
Visit the Roman Amphitheatre of Alexandria, where submerged artifacts discovered in the Eastern Harbour of Alexandria are displayed.
Then, you will drive to Saint Mark's Church — the oldest church in Africa — and then visit the old city of Alexandria, where you will walk through the old center. Here you will find traditional markets offering a wide variety of products, including traditional Egyptian sweets and snacks. The local architecture is in the Baroque style, with elements of Italian and French styles.
Optional Lunch: at a modern seafood restaurant or at Alexandria's famous traditional restaurant, "Mohamed Ahmed." The Queen of Spain and many celebrities visited this restaurant during their visits to Alexandria.
Optional: Relax at a nice café or at a traditional shisha place.
Continue your journey through the oldest market of Mansheya, visit the traditional women's market (Zanet El Setat), where the streets are very narrow, as well as the jewelry market, where jewelry for weddings and engagements is purchased.
You will also pass by Abu El-Abbas Mosque (photo stop), the most beautiful and largest mosque in the city. Nearby is one of the most unusual sights: an old amusement park, where children ride very old carousels and eat cotton candy.
Opposite is the beach and the old harbor, where you can see old fishing boats, fishermen, and traditional fishermen weaving nets. This is an excellent place for photos. Continue the tour around Qaitbay Citadel, which was built on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is an impressive fortress and an ideal place for photography.
Then you will drive to the Montaza Gardens. On the way, you can make a short two-minute stop to enjoy freshly squeezed juice from the "King of Mango" in Alexandria and take photos at the Unknown Soldier Memorial. All the beautiful coastal scenery and city views will accompany you on the way to the Montaza Palace and Gardens, which are located approximately 25 kilometers away and include the old harbor of Alexandria, where 7,000 underwater artifacts were discovered.
Upon arriving at the Montaza Gardens, which are also known as the Garden of Love (all romantic couples and families visit this place), you will explore the Royal Gardens of King Farouk (the last king in the history of Egypt), see the Haremlek and Salamlek Palaces, and walk across the famous Montaza Bridge to Tea Island, where you can admire the Queen's Beach.
On the way back, you will pass by the famous Stanley Bridge — the modern symbol of Alexandria — and then comfortably return to your hotel in Alexandria.
